Latest Technology
Gilfillan Callahan Nelson Architects was an early adopter in the latest design technology, Building Information Modeling (BIM). The firm made a significant investment in 2005 by migrating from the standard, two-dimensional design software, AutoCAD, to the 3-D modeling platform, Revit.
Revit is a parametric program used to model buildings before they are built. Revit has been used for years to construct space shuttles, airplanes and automobiles. The time has finally come for its application in the architectural, engineering and construction sectors.
Today, Gilfillan Callahan Nelson Architects is fully committed to BIM's larger realm—integrated practice. This process extracts data from the early stages of virtual, 3-D models. Generating this data earlier allows vital decisions be made much sooner in the process; the result is significant cost-savings to clients.
By extracting data from virtual models, architects and engineering consultants, alike, can greatly expand upon the value they provide throughout the project lifecycle. Our firm's use of a sophisticated software platform, Innovaya, helps us to develop tightly focused project schedules. The software also provides a “clash detection” feature that interprets the model and identifies potential conflicts (for instance, electrical conduit running into HVAC duct work) before construction begins.
The result is a technically superior building designed with pinpoint-accurate construction documents. The exactness of construction documents generated in Revit can eliminate the typical 15% seen in construction waste, while also virtually eliminating any need for re-design. |
