Arbor Park School District 145 hired Gilfillan Callahan Nelson Architects to design a new, 5-8 middle school on a century-old horse farm that it had acquired in Oak Forest. In a salute to to the area's agricultural roots, architects created a design using a barn motif, and cleverly built the school into the natural topography of the 22-acre parcel. The centerpiece of the design is a two-story courtyard that radiates sunlight throughout the building. An academic wing flanks one side, while the other houses a library, two gymnasiums, and a 349-seat “cafetorium.”
