The Village of Hoffman Estates looked to Gilfillan Callahan Nelson Architects to renovate its outdated village hall, which was originally designed in the 1980s as an insurance building. After an intensive space needs study looked closely at each department function, architects designed a $4.5 million renovation to breathe life into an outdated space. The 66,000 square foot renovation revolved around a re-shuffling of the layout of village departments. Renovations included new, multiple conference rooms, a waterfall in the lobby, and sustainable features like recycled carpet and bamboo column enclosures. The work included replacing T-12 fixtures with the more efficient T-8 fixtures, as well as the addition of low-consumption toilets, new carpeting and tile (made with recycled content), and bamboo covering on exposed beams. The project was completed in July 2008.
